Al Jazeera
Jan 2014

Developed for Windows Phone, this application brings you all the latest news and a live broadcast of Al Jazeera English; a 24-hour news and current affairs channel that broadcasts across the globe from the Middle East. Users can also watch hundreds of video clips and long-form documentary programs.

  • The user interface is high contrast and well aligned with the Al Jazeera brand.
  • The application uses the native Segoe font, ensuring a clean, light, and open look.
  • Buttons, dialogues and iconography all use the default Modern UI look.
  • Lightweight photography is used throughout the app to enhance news stories.

  • On launch, the application presents a two-column grid containing the most common news categories and quick links to personalised sections such as favourites.
  • From the main application screen, users can also swipe to navigate between seven additional panels. These include a more granular list of news categories, a list of popular programs, a list of the most popular articles and an entry point to the live video broadcast.
  • Once at article level, users can navigate to the next and previous article by tapping a series of arrow icons on the application bar.
  • Users can navigate back from all views using the dedicated hardware key.

  • Users can share videos and articles on Twitter and Facebook, or forward them to friends using email. They can access these options from within any video or article by tapping an icon on the application bar.
  • Users can also save favourite articles and common searches for easy recall.
